The Drovers Inn is a fascinating place to visit where you can stay the night or pop in for food. It is however, rumoured to be very haunted. Over 100 years ago a young girl tragically drowned in a nearby river. When she was found by her family she was moved to the Drovers Inn where she laid on the bed of room 6 before her burial. Since this horrible event many guests that have slept in the room have woken through the night with paranormal activity some claiming to have felt a wet, ice cold body lying next to them. The hauntingly beautiful Eilean Donan Castle is supposedly haunted by a Spanish soldier who was killed in 1719, during the first Jacobite rebellion. You can stop by the castle and explore during the day or travel at night to feel the eerie atmosphere.
The massacre of Glencoe is one of Scotland’s bloodiest and most brutal incidents in history which took place in 1692. The MacDonald clan were slaughtered by government forces for allegedly failing to pledge their allegiance to the new monarchs. Castle Fraser is a stunning tower house in Aberdeenshire dating back to the 1450s. The castle has many quirky features such as a secret staircase, trapdoors and even a spy hole. It is said that ghostly whispers, laughter and music have been heard in this castle’s Great Hall.
The Kilchurn Castle ruins are located at the beautiful Loch Awe in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The ruins are believed to house the spirit of a homeless woman, known as the witch of Kilchurn, who took refuge in the castle ruins.
Edinburgh Old Town definitely has an eerie vibe, especially at night. Take a stroll along the Royal Mile or join a tour to explore Edinburgh’s dark side. The old town is also home to Greyfriars kirk which is considered the most haunted graveyard in the world. Visitors to the castle that experience a sudden drop in temperature and the scent of roses are said to be in the presence of the ghost of Lilias Drummond. She was starved to death by her husband for not falling pregnant with a son and heir. Following the night of her husband’s second marriage her name was found freshly scratched into the wall outside the marital bedchamber.
