We ate so much good food in Venice that it would be plain wrong not to share all the amazing places we went. Therefore we want to share with you both where to eat and drink in Venice. We have split this post into the following sections: restaurants, places for Cicchetti, places for coffee, places for drinks and finally for gelato. Sorry in advance for making you hungry!
Birraria La Corte is a modern Venetian restaurant in the San Polo area with a rustic and hip vibe. It is a little off the beaten track and feels local. The calzone and Aperol Spritz are absolutely delicious!
Bar Foscarini in the Dorsoduro area is worth going to just for the view. Sit outside to enjoy the beautiful view of the canal and Ponte dell’Accademia bridge. The pizza is pretty great too!
Bar Oasi central area but feels a little forgotten about. Feels very authentic and sweet – exactly how you’d picture an Italian restaurant. The service is fantastic and the spaghetti aioli is amazing.
Cicchetti are small snacks or dishes often served with a spritz or alcoholic beverage. One way to experience Cicchetti is to do an Airbnb food tour. The host will take you to 3 different places to try lots of dishes paired with a spritz or wine. Experiencing them with a local helps you try things outside your comfort zone, especially if you don’t speak Italian. A highlight of the food tour is definitely Osteria Bancogiro, where the meat cicchetti and the DOCG Prosecco is delicious.
Check out the bar at Rosticceria Gislon for delicious deep fried cicchetti. The place isn’t in any way fancy but feels very local and authentic. We highly recommend trying the olive ascolane (deep fried green olives stuffed with meat and the mozzarella prosciutto (deep fried mozzarella and ham). So yummy!
In the beautiful area of Cannargio you will find the quirky Combo Hostel. We highly recommend stopping in for a coffee here whilst exploring the area. It’s a really cool place to hang out and was without a doubt the best coffee we had in the city.
Il Palazzo Experimental is a stunning boutique hotel in the Dorsoduro district. The interior design is fascinating playing tribute to classic Italian elements. At their Ristorante Adriatica you can enjoy the quirkiness of their hotel by ordering a delicious coffee.
Located in the iconic Piazza San Marco, Caffè Florian opened in 1720 and owns the title of the oldest cafe in the world. A super pricey cappuccino will set you back 15 euros! However you don’t visit here for the coffee, you visit here for the experience, the grand decor and the wonderful live music. A little to tip to cut the cost is to order and drink an espresso standing at the bar.
We highly recommend the Solana Bar at the Splendid Venice Hotel which has a really romantic atmosphere. It has a 360° view of the Venice and you can even spot the top of St. Mark’s Cathedral which is only a few blocks away. Order a delicious Aperol Spritz (our favourite Aperol Spritz in Venice) and watch the sun set over the city.
The beautiful restaurant Amo is located on the ground floor on the luxury T Fondaco dei Tedeschi shopping mall. The glamorous and quirky restaurant is a great for a fancy cocktail or snack. Also check out the shopping mall’s free rooftop terrace for a 360 degree view of Venice.
It’s mostly likely that you can’t go too wrong with gelato in Italy, but trust us when we say that Gelatoteca Suso is unbelievable! Order the opera flavour (hazelnut mixed with nutella) and you will not be disappointed.
