the location
The Sun and Surf Stay is located on Bingin Beach down a cliff side and is only accessible via lots of really steep steps. Luckily the lovely staff will be waiting at the top for your arrival to help take your luggage down. Expect a hilariously bizarre experience as they throw your baggage on top of their shoulders and are gone in the distance within seconds. You will definitely struggle to keep up! Bingin itself is a small remote cliff village and a surfers’ paradise because of the huge waves. The accommodation is directly on the beach with a view overlooking the Indian Ocean.
the space
The homestay has 7 rooms for rent. The rooms are simple with white washed furnishings and a relaxed vibe. The hammocks on the balconies are a dream. Sip a Lemon Bintang and enjoy the most amazing sunset for the most chilled experience. It’s not uncommon to wake up to cheeky monkeys swinging about the balcony so don’t leave anything on the balcony overnight. Please note the room has no fridge meaning for a cold drink you either have to visit the homestay’s restaurant or trek the steps up and down to the local shop.
the sleep
The bed is not the comfiest in the world but where the comfort is lacking in the bed the hammock makes up for. You can lie for hours watching people surf and listening to the waves.
the food
The homestay’s beach bar serves non-fussy and decently priced food. Order Nasi Goreng (an Indonesian rice dish) or the tasty pizza. It’s situated overlooking the ocean and beach.
