Already explored the Isle of Skye? Tired of the same old road trips? If you are looking for somewhere off the beaten path to visit here are some of the best hidden gems in Scotland…

1. Outlandia

Outlandia is an off-grid treehouse hidden away in the Glen Nevis forest at the foot of Ben Nevis. The treehouse is an artist studio which was built to harness links between creativity and the environment. It can be hired if you’d like to work in the space but the walk alone to see the outside is magical if you can find it.  We followed the directions from the Wild Lochaber website and found it eventually (read as far as point 8).

A slight detour off the the NC500 route will have have you at this magnificent white sand beach. Located in Sutherland, the beach is a tranquil spot with clear green water. Who knew these sorts of beaches existed in Scotland?

3. Devil's Pulpit

The Devil’s Pulpit (also known as Finnich Glen) is a 100 ft deep, moss-covered gorge, where a river runs through over red sandstone making the water appear red like blood (hence its name). The exact location is quite difficult to pin point… once you have parked and reach the information board, head up towards the fence of the farm. Walk alongside the fence for 5 minutes and you then should spot the steps down on your left. This is also not the easiest spot to get down to, the stairs feel pretty dangerous so please visit with caution and wear appropriate footwear. If you’d feel safer you can visit as part of a tour.

4. AirShip

The AirShip 002 is a unique and quirky tiny home which can be hired for stays on Airbnb. It is located in the beautiful Scottish Highlands in the very remote area of Drimnin. It is surrounded by nature with views over the Sound of Mull to Tobermory. The exterior is sure to WOW you but inside is just as fascinating with it’s creative and inspiring interior design. Hidden in a beautiful forest in the Cairngorms National Park lies the fascinating Prince Albert’s Cairn. You will find this gem near Balmoral Castle, which is the Scottish holiday home to the Royal family and has been in the family since 1852. Prince Albert’s Cairn, also known as the Balmoral pyramid, was built in memory of Queen Victoria’s late husband in 1862. You can visit the pyramid via the cairn walk on the estate.
