The Location

Let us introduce you to a stunning floating hotel in Scotland called Fingal. The boutique hotel by The Royal Yacht Britannia is permanently docked at the historic port of Leith and was newly refurbished in 2019. Leith is an up and coming area just North of Edinburgh city centre. The hotel is an ideal five-minute walk from the Leith Shorefront which is home to plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. You can expect a luxurious experience from the second you drive up and are met with the striking ship and a glamorous red carpet at the entrance.

The Space

The ship has been given a new lease of life after being transformed to feature 23 luxury cabins, an exquisite ballroom and art-deco style bar. When you step aboard the luxurious ship you will question if you have been transported to a James Bond movie scene. You will also been drawn to the sleek cylindrical lift which looks like something from a spaceship. The ship features a ballroom which is truly a work of art. It can only be compared to the elegance of the Titanic with its grand double staircase and mesmerising copper ceiling. You can also tour the ship and check out the engine room which has been encased in glass.

The Sleep

The ship’s cabins are truly wonderful. Each is named after the Stevenson lighthouses which the ship previously served during it’s chapter as a lighthouse tender. You can appreciate these details around the ship which link to it’s maritime heritage. The room feels luxurious yet cosy at the same time. The bathroom is also beautiful. The brass fittings are the perfect contrast to the green pearl wall tiles in the shower which have a real calming effect. The shower is fantastic and paired with the Noble Isle toiletries that smell delicious, it’s a dream.

The rooms have been designed utilising the talents of local crafts people. For example, each cabin’s leather finishings were created by Glasgow-based company Muirhead. The same company responsible for the luxury you would experience on Emirates First Class. The custom-made bed blankets are woven by textile designer Araminta Campbell, whose office is directly across from the ship. The bed is extremely cosy and wonderful. You can expect a wonderful sleep here.

You can also stay in the Skerryvore suite which is the most luxury cabin available for booking. The unbelievable suite has two floors and a bath tub of dreams (shown below).

The food

The ship’s Lighthouse bar serves afternoon tea, dinner and a complimentary breakfast. The breakfast includes your choice of dish alongside a continental spread. The art-deco bar provides views across the port, which is perfect to watch ships come and go.
