If you are looking for what to eat in the New Orleans French Quarter then look no further! New Orleans is famous for it’s Cajun/Creole Cuisine and tasty Po’boys. Therefore, we want to share with you everything you should try in the city.
Beignets are basically warm fried doughnuts covered with powdered sugar which taste amazing. Every blog you read will mention a place called Cafe du Monde to try them and for a good reason. Adjacent to Jackson Square the cafe is open 24 hours and has a constant queue but is 100% worth the wait. We tried them elsewhere, however we don’t believe Cafe du Monde can be beaten. We loved how thick the powdered sugar was poured on and they were a lot cheaper compared to other places.
A po’boy is a sub most commonly filled with fried sea food, like oysters or shrimp. We recommend trying your first po’boy from the Red fish Grill at the start of Bourbon Street. We asked the waitress’s recommendation and she urged us to the try their award-winning BBQ oyster po’boy. It was delicious!
Try delicious Cajun cuisine from the Pere Antoine restaurant on Royal street. The menu if fantastic as they offer sample portions of the local cuisine. We recommend ordering the chicken and sausage gumbo which tastes like a stew with rice, meat, veg and spices. Also add some hot sauce if you like spicy dishes like us. We also recommend trying Jambalaya and fried Catfish here.
Finally, we would recommend trying out ‘Dat Dog’ for a customised hot dog. The restaurant is a hot dog place with a bizarre sci-fi interior. You can choose which meat you want (even alligator meat) and as many toppings as you desire. The restaurant is located on Frenchmen Street, which is a scenic walk away at the end of the French quarter.
