Quirk Sleeping in an entire castle to yourself
In a nutshell A fairytale experience in an enchanting Scottish castle
Prices from £1000 per night (sleeps 10)
Let us introduce you to the most unique accommodation in Scotland, the Rowallan Old Castle. The 12th century castle is located on Rowallan estate in Ayrshire, Scotland. The estate is also home to a golf course, a second castle where they host weddings and the Glasshouse restaurant. The estate itself is incredibly beautiful with lots of greenery and when you first spot the castle on your left driving through your jaw will drop.
The Renaissance castle architecture is so special from the turret symmetry to the beautiful grand staircase. One of the lovely hosts will take you a tour of the castle and you will feel the excitement of seeing what is behind each door. Inside the castle has been so beautifully restored, still hosting many of its original features and full of character. The castle has 4 bedrooms, 2 of which have en-suites. It also has the capacity to sleep an extra 2 in the games room upstairs which is where you can enjoy playing pool, chess or musical instruments.
Out-with these rooms you have 2 extra bathrooms, a grand dining room, living room and gorgeous kitchen. Enjoy a coffee in the kitchen by the window and you can imagine a horse and carriage coming over the road of a time gone by. You can even explore the castle’s eerie dungeon and ruins (at your own risk haha). The keys will also make you laugh as they are huge and heavy, adding to the fairytale experience.
The master bedroom shown below is huge and extremely cosy. It is truly fit for a king and queen with it’s luxurious furnishings and elegant colour palette. The room is so modern and warm that you almost forget you are in a massive 12th century castle.
Enjoy a private dining experience in the castle which is an experience you will never forget. The 3 course meal is prepared in the castle’s kitchen by the estate’s talented executive chef, Ian Mackie. The delicious authentically Scottish meal is then served in the grand dining room. The magical set up is perfect again making you feel like royalty. To start we’d recommend the delicious seared scallops with Stornaway black pudding. For mains we would recommend the Scotch beef. Finally for desert, choose the assortment of chocolate puddings.
