If you are visiting the wonderful Key West and are looking for the best things to eat and drink then look no further! As big fans of sampling local cuisine and the most popular food spots, we love to create ourselves a mini food tour. We pick a handful of places fairly close to each other where an easy route can be followed. This allows us to discover more of an area and go off the beaten path. So here’s what we would recommend trying in Key West and where to taste it…
conch fritters
Originally from the Bahamas, conch fritters are now synonymous with Key West. They are made of conch meat and taste amazing with a spicy dip. We are definitely not big fish eaters but love fried food and so thought we’d give them a try. We recommend the Key West Conch Fritters Stand on Whitehead Street. Here you can buy six freshly cooked fritters with various dips. This is the perfect amount for a food tour with plenty more stops!
Cuban expresso
Cuban Coffee Queen is a coffee spot in Key West popular with locals and tourists alike. We recommend trying the Bucci Cuban expresso $1 shot, which was amazing and gave us a great caffeine boost to carry on with our food tour. Visit their stand at 284 Margaret Street to snap some photos at their iconic mural after your coffee! You may be thinking why Cuban? Well here’s a fun fact Cuba is actually only 103 miles from Key West!
key lime pie
Key West’s famous Key Lime Pie is everywhere and it is delicious. Many local bakeries dispute who was first to create the pie, however no matter where you choose the chances are high it will be amazing. We opted for a take-out version from Kermit’s. The store also sells everything Key Lime related which is great for souvenirs and gifts.
peppers hot sauce
As lovers of hot sauce and spicy food discovering this place was a dream. Peppers of Key West is a hot sauce store carrying hundreds of different sauces. Here you can sample as many as as you like with the Popchips they provide.
key lemonade
Don’t forget to try Key West’s fresh lemonade! Try a frozen alcoholic version at Rick’s bar. Watch the world go by with a window seat view of the busy Duval Street and listen to amazing live music. It’s the perfect place to end your food tour.
