Chiang Mai is a wonderful city with so many unique qualities. Therefore we want to share with you the best things to do in Chiang Mai.
take a cooking class
If you love Thai food as much as us you will definitely want to take a cooking class whilst in the country. We highly recommend the Thai Farm Cooking school. The experience includes pick-up and drop-off from your accommodation. Firstly you will visit a local market to learn about the staple ingredients. Next you will get dropped at the farm and get started on cooking your delicious Thai meal. For each course you will have a selection of dishes to choose from with the freshest ingredients. For example, deep fried spring rolls, Thai green curry, chicken cashew nut and mango sticky rice. The experience costs approx. £37 pp and is worth every penny.
visit an elephant sanctuary
There are loads of activities in Thailand involving elephants but we ask you to please choose one that is ethical. Choose an elephant sanctuary where you can educate yourself on their wellbeing. These amazing places rescue elephants from captivity and rehabilitate them. You can help feed the elephants and wash them. We just ask you please do your research before visiting one. Any organisation that encourages elephant trekking, performing or other ways of exploiting should be avoided.
cycle and explore
Unlike many other cities in Asia we have visited, Chiang Mai feels like a very safe place to cycle on the roads. Cycling is a great way to explore areas you would otherwise miss.
visit quirky cafes
The amount of quirky and cool cafes in Chiang Mai is endless. One of our favourites we highly recommend is the Rustic and Blue Farm Shop. The delicious food is locally sourced. For example their baked goods are made in their farm kitchen. We’d recommend the maple chicken and cheddar cheese waffle, and sangria to drink. The restaurant courtyard is a beautiful setting at night covered in fairy lights.
Eat at the one nimman shopping centre
The food court at the One Nimman Shopping centre is unreal. The selection of food is great and very reasonable priced. We loved the cheap Thai dishes. For example the Pad Krapow (spicy thai basil chicken).
